Ongoing Saturday, February 25, 2012 Special Saturday Workshop
12:00- 2:00pm Michael Markus - playing rhythm from Guinea for dance classes/ensemble playing. Michael will focus on ensemble playing, making the group cohesive and correct from the break. This workshop will be designed for ALL levels! We will also allow intermediate and advanced students to solo, and while beginners hold the basics. Excellent practice!

Michael Markus's Open-level drumming class focuses on basic accompaniment djembe and doundoun patterns from Guinea, West Africa. This class emphasizes the students' development of correct sound and technique for playing both the djembe and doundoun drums. In addition to learning accompaniment patterns students are encouraged to acquire solo phrasing techniques, practice with varying tempos, and practice learning both djembe and doundoun patterns for each rhythm.
Michael conducts a lively, fun and supportive class atmosphere for his students. He maintains an astute talent for recognizing and strengthening varying student abilities within his class while giving individual attention in such a manner that the group benefits. Michael's many years as an instructor of the extensive rhythms of Guinea provides a learning experience that is s tructured, knowledgeable and entertaining! This class is for those interested in discovering the rhythms of Guinea along with the history, cultural significance and traditions of the music and its people.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Private instruction is beneficial for the beginner and advanced student alike!
Available for one on one, or small group ensembles!
For newcomers to the percussive music of West Africa, private classes can easily jumpstart a student's understanding and ability on the djembe and doundoun drums.
For more intermediate and advanced students, small group playing allows for accelerated development of the students technique through concentrated attention by the instructor. Intermediate and advanced students may choose to focus their study on a specific rhythm from Guinea, West Africa. Alternately students may choose to hone their playing technique through their instructor's assessment and critique while working to develop proper playing habits and practice routines.
Private classes are catered to YOUR needs and ability as a student. Our instructors respect your comfort level while encouraging you to excel. Any member of the Wula group can teach a private class.
Private instruction can significantly enhance a student's repertoire and ability. However, all students of private classes are encouraged to join a group class, which also offers unique benefits to the student's development.
One on one: $60 per Session (1- 1.5 hour) - Please schedule a week or more in advance
Small Group Lesson: $150 minimum (if more than 5 people , rate can change)
